Strategic program to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency investments in the electricity sector of Sao Tome and Principe
UNIDO ALER partner once again to implement activities to promote renewables, this time in São Tomé and Príncipe. This partnership follows on from the previous collaboration with ALER, which resulted in the national report of São Tomé and Príncipe, available here.
The new contract, Strategic program to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency investments in the electricity sector of Sao Tome and Principe, has the main objective to create a strategic partnership to promote renewable energies in Sao Tome and Principe and south-south cooperation with other lusophone countries.
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) fundes the project implemented by UNIDO in partnership with the General Directorate for Natural Resources and Energy (DGRNE) at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Natural Resources (MOPIRNA) and in close consultation with other national stakeholders (e.g. DGE/MOPIRNA, NDA, EMAE, AGER, AFAP).
This program foreseen the implementation of the following activities:
Virtual awareness campaign:
- Regular publication of online articles;
- Organization of 3 webinars:
- "Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory in the Energy Sector in São Tomé and Príncipe"
- "Reference Case Studies in Renewable Energies – São Tomé and Príncipe, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde"
- "National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Action Plans for São Tomé and Príncipe"
- Creation and development of the Women Sustainable Energy Program (STP, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau).
Organization of two events to promote STP:
- International Conference on Sustainable Energy in São Tomé and Príncipe;
- Accompanying the São Tomé and Príncipe delegation, headed by the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, Osvaldo Abreu, to the Africa Energy Forum 2022.
Training program for national renewable energy associations:
- Training for Renewable Energy Associations of São Tomé and Príncipe;
- Development and publication of six case studies on sustainable energy projects in Portuguese-speaking countries (São Tomé and Príncipe, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau);
- Sustainable Energy, Entrepreneurship and Startups Workshop.
