Agro-livestock Cooperatives & Rural Enterprises becomes the 5th recipient of the TSE4ALLM programme
UNIDO, through the project "Towards Sustainable For All in Mozambique" (TSE4ALLM), developed the BCI Super credit line in 2022 with the objective to complement the dissemination of integrated renewable energy systems for productive uses in rural areas in Mozambique.
Cooperativa Agropecuária & Empreendimentos Rurais, Limitada has become the fifth beneficiary of the BCI SUPER credit line (discover other projects here).
Through this financial facility, the Cooperative will install an irrigation system powered by two SF2 solar pumps to irrigate an area of four hectares (ha) of vegetables near the Nhandzihe River, located in the North of Zavala District, Inhambane in Mozambique.
In this rural area, most farmers (97%) have no experience with solar powered irrigation systems and rely on rudimentary methods of crop irrigation.
"The acquisition of the SF2 solar pumps for irrigation will lead to an increase in productivity and therefore attract the interest of other farmers in the region who currently rely on traditional irrigation methods with low productivity capacity," said Alcidio Chinolane, Manager of the Cooperative.
With the use of the solar irrigation system, is expected that the company will increase its production capacity from 30 tons of vegetables per year to 150 tons, thus contributing to the improvement of food security in the district.
For the district, it is expected to be a very visible initiative for the promotion of sustainable agriculture practices and replicable to other regions of the district and the province, promoting the sustainable use of renewable energies in Agriculture.
