ALER in Angola: RELOP Conference, new partnership and preparation of activities
The Executive Director of ALER was in Luanda from October 22 to 25 to participate in the conference of RELOP - Association of Energy Regulators of Portuguese-speaking countries, establish new partnerships and prepare the activities that the Association will develop in the country, which will be announced soon.
XII RELOP Conference: Energy Transition and Regional Challenges
The 12th Conference of the Association of Energy Regulators of Portuguese-speaking Countries took place on October 24, under the topic "Energy Transition and Regional Challenges", an event that is part of the annual meeting program between members of RELOP and preceding the Geral Assembly, which took place on October 25.
The conference was a space for sharing and joint reflection about the ongoing Energy Transition, on the one hand as a challenge in fighting climate change, and, on the other hand, as an opportunity to boost the economy and to generate investment and employment opportunities. Associated with this debate, there was also a reflection on some of the regional challenges marking the agenda of regulators of the Lusophone space.
The Executive Director of ALER was a speaker at Panel I: Energy Transition and Climate Change, making a summary of the latest developments in the renewable energy sector in all PALOP. It was followed by the presentation of Eng. Posik Santo of the General Regulatory Authority of São Tomé and Príncipe, who spoke of the paradigm shift in São Tomé, of committing to renewable energies in response to the current energy crisis caused by the cutting of the fuel supply by Sonangol. Eng. Wilson Tavares, representative of the Angolan Renewable Energy Association, referred to the areas to which this entity will dedicate itself in the future, with a view to becoming an essential and cross-cutting player in the renewable energy sector in Angola. Finally, Dr. António Saide, president of FUNAE, ended with a sharp and very pertinent provocation about the challenges of energy transition and climate change, which Mozambique has been experiencing, referring for example to cyclones Idai and Kenneth.
It was very clear in all presentations the inevitability of betting on renewable energies and the work that must be done to get there, where regulators play an essential role.
