Inauguration of a photovoltaic system in the city of Praia under the Covenant of Mayors

In December, in the city of Praia, a photovoltaic system was inaugurated in Alexandre Albuquerque square, as part of the "Action Plan for Climate and Sustainable Access to Energy for Sub-Saharan Africa" (SEACAP).

This regional initiative arises in the context of the European project "Covenant of Mayors for Sub-Saharan Africa" (CoM SSA), funded by the European Union, co-financed and implemented by AECID in partnership with the Municipality of Praia and the Municipality of Ribeira Grande de Santiago.

The photovoltaic system contributes to the production of clean energy, reducing CO2 emissions and powering public buildings.

Praia City Council implements information and awareness activities on climate and sustainable energy in the city's secondary schools

Also within the scope of the Communication and Awareness Plan for SEACAP, developed by ALER, the Praia City Council is committed to raise awareness among the educational community about the climate and renewable energies, implementing communication campaigns and actions in local secondary schools.

It was in this context that campaigns and lectures on Climate and Sustainable Energies were held in secondary schools in the city of Praia, thus presenting their environmental projects, with the support of Spanish Cooperation and CoM SSA.

The main objective is to raise awareness among students, as well as teachers, about the projects of the Municipality of Praia (CMP) for this sector, in its fight and contribution to stop global warming and avoid the consequences of climate change.

In addition, the phases of the preparation of the studies were shared in these meetings so that the CMP could design its SEACAP finalized and approved in June 2023, as well as the preparation of a dossier of climate and urban projects in the city of Praia.

The pilot project in the city was also presented, the Business Case of Ponta D'Água, which will include the installation of a 16 KWp photovoltaic energy system for the production of energy in the Secondary School, Group XII, and for the lighting of the sports complex, as well as the installation of 25.4 KWp in the Market.
