Opportunity for Technical and Financial Support for Energy-Water Nexus Projects in Cabo Verde
The Sustainable Energy Access to Manage Water Resources: Addressing the Energy – Water Nexus in Cabo Verde project, which will end in August 2024, is open to receive proposals for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency technologies in water production systems, namely for pumping, desalination and waste water treatment systems in Cabo Verde.
The project can provide technical support as well as financial support of up to 30% of the total cost of RE and EE equipment and services during the implementation phase. Promoters should submit projects which are due to conclude implementation by July 2024.

The Sustainable Energy Access to Manage Water Resources: Addressing the Energy – Water Nexus in Cabo Verde project, promoted by the Government of Cabo Verde, implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) with financing from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), aims to catalyze the market-based integration of Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE) technologies in water resource management systems, with a particular focus on water pumping systems in rural areas and water desalination plants in urban centers throughout Cabo Verde.
By bundling a set of key interventions in the area of investment policy and capacity development, as well as awareness raising, the project is expected to deliver the main overarching results:
- Energy-water nexus and Energy Services Companies (ESCOs) approach integrated in relevant national policies and regulations;
- Enhanced local capacity on energy-water nexus and ESCOs approach;
- Identification of, and support in the implementation of 3.6 MW of private investments in projects addressing the energy-water nexus;
- Continuous monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of the implementation of the project conducted in accordance with established GEF and UNIDO procedures and guidelines.
