SADC Energy Ministers approve establishment of SACREEE
The establishment of SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE) was discussed at the 34th meeting of the Ministers responsible for Energy in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) which was held on the 24th of July 2015 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The ministers approved the establishment of SACREEE and that the Republic of Namibia should host the centre. The Ministers also commended the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and Austrian Development Agency (ADA) for their contribution towards the establishment of the centre.
SACREEE will be very important in promoting market-based adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies and services in SADC member states, thereby supporting the region’s sustainable development objectives.
ALER is engaging with SADC to support SACREEE´s implementation and ensure that Mozambique and Angola, the lusophone countries belonging to SADC, take the most out of it.
