UNOPS and São Tomé and Príncipe sign Memorandum of Understanding
On the sidelines of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly, a new agreement signed in New York, on September 20, signals the beginning of joint work on development projects in the African island nation.
"We look forward to further applying our institutional knowledge in support of the Sustainable Development Goals in São Tomé and Príncipe, while also expanding opportunities for socially responsible investments in the country," said UNOPS Executive Director, Grete Faremo.
His Excellency Minister of Foreign Affairs of São Tomé and Príncipe, H.E. Dr. Urbino José Gonçalves Botelho, expressed confidence in the support UNOPS would provide in its mandated areas: project and contract management, procurement, and infrastructure development.
"We value UNOPS strategic thinking towards sustainable development in our country," said Minister Botelho. "We are excited to start working with them to structure investable deals, with a focus on social housing and renewable energy, as these two areas are very important to us."
